August Derleth. The Trail of Cthulhu. Sauk City: Arkham House, 1962. First edition, one of 2,500 copies printed. This copy inscribed by Derleth on the front free endpaper:"For John Ramsey-/Cordially,/August Derleth/[underscore]".
Octavo. [vi], [250] pages. Publisher's full black cloth, spine lettered in gilt. In the original publisher's dust jacket. Cloth a bit rubbed and thumbsoiled, some light shadow to inscription, small ink date on front pastedown. Jacket spine sunned, some edgewear, toning and rubbing. Good.

It is possible that the recipient is author Ramsey Campbell (born John Ramsey Campbell). In 1961, Campbell sent Derleth a Lovecraft-influenced short story, The Church in High Street, which Derleth accepted in 1962. It was Campbell's first commercially-published story, and it appeared in Arkham House's anthology, Dark Mind, Dark Heart (1962).
