Phillips, 1823. First edition. Small quarto. Approximately 7.75 x 4.5 inches. [xvi], 508 pages. Illustrated with 391 intertextual woodcut diagrams throughout. Contemporary quarter brown calf over marbled paper boards, dark brown paper corners, spine ruled and lettered in gilt. Stubs of endleaves affixed to first and final text leaves. Front joint cracking, some moderate wear to binding, some minor occasional offsetting in text. Overall, a very good copy.

    More Information:

    Henry James Brooke (1771-1857) was a London broadcloth manufacturer who also dealt in the Spanish wool trade. He was an amateur mineralogist and geologist who discovered thirteen new mineral species and introduced six primary crystalline systems. This book is his study of crystal structures, based on his collections of minerals and shells.
