    Description

    The Manuscript Edition of
The Writings of Henry David Thoreau -
One of the Best Copies We've Seen

Henry David Thoreau. The Writings of Henry David Thoreau. Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin and Company, 1906. Manuscript Edition, one of 600 copies (this being copy number 60) with a leaf (two pages) of manuscript from the Changing of the Birches section of Thoreau's Journal. Signed by the publisher. Illustrated in each volume with a photograph of flowers and a hand-colored scene used as frontispieces and additional plates inserted throughout. Bound in publisher's three-quarter green levant morocco over marbled boards, spine elaborately tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, top edge gilt, others uncut, marbled endleaves. Several pages unopened. Despite a few tiny spots of occasional rubbing to bindings, this is a bright, fine set - one of the finest we've ever seen. The spines are unfaded, and the bindings are still crisp and tight.
