Henry A. Boller. Among the Indians. Eight Years in the Far West: 1858-1866. Embracing Sketches of Montana and Salt Lake. Philadelphia: T. Ellwood Zell, 1868. First edition. Small octavo (7.25 x 4.25 inches; 184 x 102 mm.). 428, [2, blank] pages; folding map bound in front: "Map of Localities to Accompany 'Among the Indians.'" Contemporary half red morocco over red marbled boards, spine ruled in black and lettered in gilt in compartments, four raised bands. Marbled endleaves and edges. Spine rebacked, preserving the original spine, some apparent color restoration to corners. Spine toned and worn, some rubbing to boards and wear and scuffing to corners; rear hinge starting. Text toned; some intermittent soiling in text. A few short marginal tears to map at folds. Overall, a very good copy. Howes B-579 ("Most authoritative narrative of fur-trading among the plains Indians of the upper Missouri, for the period."); Adams, Six-Guns 235 ("Most of the existing copies of this rare book lack the map.") Graff 341; Sabin 6221.
