    Heinrich Aldegrever. Engraving Depicting the Good Samaritan Tending to the Traveler's Wounds. [From The Story of the Good Samaritan]. Germany: 1554. First impression. Two small pieces of removable tape at upper corners of verso, attached to matting. Tiny ink note at bottom corner verso, no bleedthrough, excellent condition. Signed with Aldegrever's monogram and date at upper right. Lettered underneath: "Sacerdos Et Levita Misero Relicto Transennt Samaritanus Autem Vulnera Obligat. Luc 10:2." The Samaritan and the traveler in the left foreground, the priest and the Levite dressed in contemporary clerical dress passing by in the right background. Approximately 3 x 4.25 inches. Rare.     "Heinrich Aldegrever (1502-1561), a trained goldsmith, creating decorative designs for ironwork, such as swords and daggers. He later began engraving, his work falling into the group of artists during the German Renaissance known as the 'Little Masters' due to the diminutive size of their prints. Aldegrever focused on mythological and Biblical subjects, executed with intricate detail, line, light and shadow." - Absolute Art, The Masters].
