Harlan Ellison, editor. Medea: Harlan's World. Huntington Woods, Michigan: Phantasia Press, 1985.
First edition. One of 35 specially bound copies signed by the authors and illustrator. Octavo. 532 pages. Nine illustrations (one fold out) by Kelly Freas.

Full leather binding with silver illustrations on cover and silver print on spine. Occasional minor rubbing along lower edges of boards does not detract from this otherwise exceptional volume. Fine condition.

In 1975, Ellison was invited to teach an adult education course at UCLA on the subject of science fiction. One evening's session was devoted to the imagining process -- how writers develop their ideas into stories -- and featured a panel of genre luminaries essentially creating an entire planetary culture on the spot. Medea documents the concept seminar, the dialogue between writers and readers, and the stories that resulted. Authors/signatures include: Poul Anderson, Hal Clement, Thomas Disch, Harlan Ellison, Frank Herbert, Larry Niven, Frederik Pohl, Robert Silverberg, Theodore Sturgeon, Kate Wilhelm and Jack Williamson; artist is Kelly Freas. From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
