    Hans Sebald Beham. Six of Seven Engravings Depicting the Planets with Their Zodiac Symbols. Nuremberg: 1539. Six single cuts. Excellent impressions, cut close at borders. Each with mounts on the left side, tipped onto a single card stock sheet. Small pencil notes on versos, not affecting rectos. Each with Beham's monogram, zodiac symbol, and planet name: "Satturnus", "Jupider", "Mars", "Sol", "Venus", and "Luna". Lacking "Mercurus". Approximately 1.25 x 1.75 inches each. Very rare.     More Information:

    Hans Sebald Beham (1500-1550), German engraver and most prolific of the German "Little Masters" of engraving, so called due to the size of their prints. Beham is noted for his brilliant work on such small copper plates and is believed to have worked with Albrecht Dürer in his studio. His subjects included biblical, mythological, and often erotic material. Bartsch 114-120. Pauli 116-122. Hollstein III: 74-75.
