    First edition. Complete in twenty-four quarto parts. 780 continuous pages including Index. Contains forty-seven color plates with drawings by various artists inserted throughout, as well as numerous intertextual illustrations including: photographs, drawings, maps, and time-diagrams by J.F. Horrabin. Publisher's side-stitched bindings in original pictorial wrappers. Housed in green cloth slipcase. Wrappers lightly creased, some spines worn, edges chipped. Some joints starting at ends, front wrapper of first part detached put present. Part twenty-four spine perished near heel with mild dampstain to lower margin at fore edge and two minor occurrences of biopredation to concluding pages. Slipcase slightly rubbed. Very good overall.
