    Wells's First Published Work

    H. G. Wells. Text-Book of Biology. London: W. B. Clive & Co., [no date, 1893]. First edition of Wells's first published work, with early-issue catalogs. Two octavo volumes. x, 149, [1, blank]; x, 157, [1, blank], [2, advertisements] pages. Each with thirty-two page publisher's catalog inserted at rear, dated 21.8.93 and 23.10.93. Forty-seven folding plates illustrated by Wells tipped in throughout the two volumes. Original dark green cloth, boards double-ruled in blind, spines lettered and stamped in gilt. Cloth lightly rubbed with occasional scuff, two small bruises to front board of second volume, both spines very slightly cocked, light wear to spine ends and edges, corners bumped. Hinges starting with occasional over-opening throughout, scant holographic notations, including numbering to some plates, bookseller tickets to front pastedowns. Still, a clean and presentable very good set of an uncommon work. Hammond E1. Wells 1. From the Larry McMurtry Collection of H. G. Wells, with McMurtry's bookplate.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
