    More Information:

    H. G. Wells. Floor Games. London: Frank Palmer, [1911]. Two copies of the first edition; one inscribed by Wells to his children's governess, with various notes by her and an original photo of Wells with his son's toys; the other copy in dust jacket. [With:] A leaf of original drawings by H. G. Wells [and:] an original photo of Wells' son's toys, some of which are pictured in the book.

One volume with a presentation by Wells on the front free endpaper: "Mathilde Meyer/from/H. G. Wells/very best wishes/Dec. 1911". On the recto of the frontispiece is an original photograph of Wells sitting at a small table with some of his son's toys (approximately 4.25 x 6 inches), with his name written in another hand (presumably Mathilde Meyer's) beneath it. [With:] H. G. Wells. Two Original Humorous Drawings in Pencil. ["After playing Racing Demon at Easton Glebe", n.d., ca. 1914]. Two pages on one octavo leaf. Approximately 8 x 6.5 inches. On one side is large drawing of a man lying face-down on the ground with a grievous head would, and a police man saying: "Pardon, M'sieu Votre tete est Cassée" and another man saying "M'sieu". On the other side is a drawing of a man and a woman watching a card trick  and the magician saying, "Can you see the card?". It is captioned in pencil "Card Sharpers at Work". Also on  this side are mathematical exercises, presumably by one of Wells' children. At the bottom, Meyer has noted in red ink: "Drawn by H. G. Wells" as well as the above mention of playing Racing Demon. Vertical and horizontal creases, minor edgewear. Very good. [With:] Original Photograph of some of Wells' son's toys. [N.p., though probably Easton Glebe, n.d., ca. 1914]. Approximately 3 x 5 inches. Some wear and a few scratches. Good. [and:] Another copy of Floor Games, first edition. This copy in the rare original die-cut dust jacket. Books are large octavo. 71, [1, colophon] pages. With eight plates inserted throughout. Publisher's full blue cloth binding, pictorial paper label on front board, front board and spine lettered in yellow. Presentation copy rubbed, with several newspaper clippings mounted onto the verso of the Contents page and the facing page (as was, apparently Mathilde Meyer's custom). The other copy has the rare dust jacket, which is sunned and worn with several tears and chips, the book being fine. Overall, both copies are very good and fascinating. A wonderful collection, with a rare glimpse of Wells' lighter side.
