Proof Annotated by Wells

    H. G. Wells. '42 to '44. A Contemporary Memoir Upon Human Behavior During the Crisis of World Revolution. London: Secker & Warburg, [1943]. Pair of Proofs in two states, including one volume annotated by Wells (with about 320 words, the most illegible entries accompanied by typed slips stapled to page margins), with additional notations by Roger Senhouse and C. D. Medley, to be kept as file copy, other copy annotated by Roger Senhouse. Octavo. 200 pages each. Original unprinted blue wrappers. Chemised in slipcase. Includes related correspondence with four typed letters signed: one by H. G. Wells addressing corrections, with holographic notations, to Fredric Warburg, the other three from Wells's daughter-in-law and business manager, Marjorie Wells, the first to Roger Senhouse upon returning the first annotated copy and two more to Mr. Warburg, one with holographic notations by H. G. Wells. As well as a typed letter from Thomas Dawson to a Mr. Roberts concerning potentially libelous material found in the book. Proof wrappers lightly rubbed, spines leaning with slight roll, backstrips faded, occasionally edgewear, some joints starting at ends. Good overall, as expected, considering Wells's and others' extensive handling. Letters very good with light creasing and occasional edgewear and rust stain from paperclip, two with horizontal folds as mailed. Hammond E46. From the Larry McMurtry Collection of H. G. Wells, with McMurtry's bookplate.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
