H. C. Bailey. Group of Six First American Editions. New York: The Crime Club, Inc., 1935-1944.Together, six octavo volumes. Various paginations. Publisher's cloth bindings. Each in original publisher's dust jackets. Some moderate wear, thumbsoiling to bindings, endleaves toned or offset, some toning in text, a few gutters overopened. Jacket spines sunned, jackets worn, with chipping and tears. Generally Good.
Titles include:
The Sullen Sky Mystery.
The Twittering Bird Mystery.
Mr. Clunk's Text.
Orphan Ann.
Nobody's Vineyard (jacket restored and repaired, ownership signature, some damage to endleaves, possibly from tape or sticker removal).
The Queen of Spades.
All titles feature Bailey's crusading (and sanctimonious) lawyer, Joshua Clunk. The Sullen Sky Mystery is considered to be Bailey's finest work.
