George S. Patton, Jr.: Signed War As I Knew It. (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1947), 425 pages, red cloth with gilt & black lettering on the spine, 8vo (5.5" x 8.5"), in clear plastic protective sleeve and housed in a red custom quarter leather slipcase with marbled boards and gilt titles & five raised bands on the spine. Illustrated endpapers. A cut signature reading "G S Patton Jr." has been affixed underneath the frontispiece photograph. War As I Knew It is General Patton's first-hand account of his Third Army's dramatic sweep across the battlefields of Europe, and a fascinating exercise in memoir. The book presented here is in about fine condition, with minimal shelf wear and a few very light spots on the boards. A scarce opportunity to attain a book and signature from one of World War II's most celebrated military figures.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
