First edition of the complete score of this landmark modern opera; presentation copy, inscribed by Gershwin beneath his photo on the portrait frontispiece: "To Aage B. Nilsen / With sincere good wishes / George Gershwin / June 22, 1936." Large quarto (12 x 9 inches; 305 x 228 mm.). [viii], 559, [1, blank] pages. With portrait frontispiece inserted. Publisher's black cloth backstrip over printed wrappers. Minor creasing to backstrip; minor creasing to front wrap at upper corner, vertical scuff-mark on rear wrap; first few leaves lightly bumped at upper corner; very minor soiling to fore-edge of text block. Nearly fine. Housed in later cloth clamshell case. Publisher's note laid in stating that this is the "Original Unabridged Version of Porgy and Bess Due to time limitations in the theatre, the actual playing version has several deletions."
