In the Scarce Original Dust Jackets

George C. Williamson. The History of Portrait Miniatures - In Two Volumes. London: George Bell and Sons, 1904.

Edition limited to 520 copies, of which 510 copies were for sale ("It will not be reprinted"). Two folio volumes. xxix, 214; ix, 211 pages. Numerous plates reproducing hundreds of actual-size miniature portraits behind captioned tissue guards. Frontispiece in Volume I. Indices.

Publisher's cream cloth with gilt lettering, rules and pictorial devices to front boards and spines. Top edges gilt. Bindings slightly cocked. Minimal offsetting to endpapers. Minor bumping to corners. Armorial bookplate of John Coppin Straker, a member of Britain's horsey set, on each front pastedown. The books are in fine condition; both volumes are in the scarce original dust jackets, which are faded and which have chipping to extremities, most prominently to spine ends of Volume I. A very nice set.

Comprehensive and standard work on the art of miniature portrait painting between the years 1531 and 1860.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
