First edition. Quarto. Fold out frontispiece "View of the great Volcano of Peli", folding chart, and thirteen engraved plates. Armorial bookplate of Edward Simeon on front pastedown. Boards detached. Captain Byron was the cousin of the poet Lord Byron. Good.

Both boards detached, rubbed and scuffed, leather backstrip missing with few gilt remnants; small holograph pencil bookseller's marks on endpapers, fold separation with old paper repair on verso of fold out frontispiece, title page coming loose, foxing and browning spots (heavy at times), few small tears, occasional soiling and smudges. Modern removable protective tips added. Otherwise in good condition.
