Garth Williams. Four Items Relating to Bedtime for Frances by Russell Hoban, 1960, including: Garth Williams' copy of the book, a later edition with a $3.95 price on dust jacket flap. Small hole in the first "E" in "Bedtime" on jacket spine. Else, a fine copy. Tantalizingly, on the rear flap, after the bio of author Russell Hoban which ends with "He is also the author of a novel for older readers, The Mouse and His Child," Garth Williams has written "STOLEN!" followed by his initials. [and:] A mock-up of the book containing an original drawing of a proposed frontispiece (the illustration used in the book showing Frances drinking milk) and title page reading "Bedtime for Francis [sic] / The Baby Badger." Several blank pages with page numbers. Some pages with very faint sketches that seem to be for another work (one of the pages is headed "Emmet's Pig," the book by Mary Stolz that Williams illustrated in 1959). Small hardcover book with white glossy paper boards, with "DUMMY / BEDTIME FOR FRANCIS [sic]" written in ink on front cover. Backstrip peeling away from binding; occasional minor insect damage to a few blank pages. Else very good. [and:] A list in Garth Williams' hand (in pencil) titled "Bedtime for Francis [sic] Illustrations" with description of all the illustrations in the book filling one sheet, recto only. One 8.5 x 11-inch sheet, folded in half, a few shallow creases along edges. Very good. [and:] A copy of the first Spanish-language edition of the book, La Hora de Acostarse de Francisca, published in 1996, with colorized illustrations. Fine in dust jacket. From the Estate of Garth Williams.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
