Thirty-Four Original Sketches by Garth Williams, and an Autograph Letter Signed by John Sebastian

Garth Williams (American Artist, 1912-1996). Thirty-Four Original Sketches and Archive Material Related to the Final Version of John Sebastian's Book, JB's Harmonica. [N.p., ca. 1991-1993]. Sketches mainly in pencil (a few in pen), and a few are signed by Williams. Approximately 11.5 x 8 inches and smaller. Some minor wear, a few with staple-holes or chipping. Still, generally very good. [With]: John Sebastian (American Musician and Composer, b. 1944) Autograph Letter Signed [n.p., n.d., ca. 1991]. Approximately 11 x 8.5 inches. A friendly and warm letter written in black ink, in which Sebastian gives details about the type of harmonica the young bear ("JB") would have used in the book (the warmth of the letter is no doubt partially due to the fact that Garth Williams is Sebastian's godfather). [And]: Twenty-two photocopied sheets of (possibly) final artwork, and a "Production First Proof" mock-up of the book. This charming book was written by John Sebastian (founding member of The Lovin' Spoonful) and illustrated by Williams. An Excellent collection. From the Estate of Garth Williams.

    More Information:

This book has a somewhat unusual history; the main characters were originally humans - for some reason (perhaps an attempt to generate broader appeal to young children) they were later changed into bears (Williams had a particular talent for drawing anthropomorphic animals). The final result is a charming book (published in 1993 by Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich).

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
