Quarto (11.125 x 8.75 inches; 283 x 222 mm.). [xx], 367, [1, printer's note]; frontispiece and fifty-two additional engraved plates inserted throughout, several double-page, with numerous in-text illustrations on wood; folding Map of the Nile, laid down on linen, preceding the text. Publisher's dark green cloth, boards ruled in blind; front board decoratively stamped in gilt, spine lettered and stamped in gilt. Rebacked with original spine laid down; endpapers renewed. Backstrip dulled with some gilt tarnished; original spine ends worn and mended, minimal cloth lost; boards lightly rubbed with some very minor soiling; board edges and corners somewhat worn and bumped. Ex-library with Lincoln's Inn Library rubber stamps to the title-page and conclusion of the text; withdrawn stamp on the recto of the frontispiece. Pages edges worn, some leaves and plates tanning and very slightly brittle; occasional edgewear and marginal soiling; pencil notes on the illustration list; bookseller's ticket and bookplate to the front pastedown. A very good, sympathetically restored copy. From a Private Collection in St. Charles, IL.
