    [William] Ince and [Jonathan] Mayhew. Le Systeme Universel de Garniture de Maison [The Universal System of Household Furniture]. London: [Sold by Robert Sawyer: ca. 1762]. First edition of this rare book on furniture design. Folio. Approximately 14 x 9.75 inches. Engraved title-page in French (English title-page and all other text leaves missing) and fifty-five (of 101) plates inserted throughout (forty-nine plates are full-page, six are smaller). Contemporary half brown calf over marbled boards, spine ruled in gilt with gilt burgundy morocco lettering label. Front board detached, binding quite worn, library bookplate and inkstamps on front endleaves and two inkstamps on title-page, and one plate with inkstamp. Plates toned, some foxing and thumbsoiling, several plates with tears or chips at inner margin. A fair copy of an important book on furniture design.
