[Mickey Spillane]. Pair of Fencing Foils Given to Mickey Spillane by Basil Rathbone. A matched pair of fencing foils measuring 43 inches long overall that Spillane's estate indicates were given to Mickey by the eminent English actor Basil Rathbone, who counted fencing as one of his favorite recreations. Spillane related in an interview that Rathbone was the nicest he'd ever met in the action field: "He was the neatest fellow around, nice, kind, considerate..." Rathbone was a bit more critical of Spillane, commenting that "Mickey Spillane and his ilk killed Sherlock Holmes." The men appeared together on a number of television variety shows during the 1950s and 1960s. The foils are accompanied by a September 8, 1961 issue of Life magazine featuring a story about Spillane and illustrated with a photograph of Spillane and an actor friend dueling with the foils on the dunes near his South Carolina home. A larger 9 x 13 inches black-and-white publicity still from that shoot is also included. The foils show evidence of much use having survived Mickey and several hurricanes; the magazine's cover is a bit tatty; the photograph is worn along the edges. From the estate of Mickey Spillane.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
