[Mickey Spillane]. Mickey Spillane's Smith-Corona Secretarial Manual Typewriter, Circa 1958-1960. One of five typewriters used by Mickey Spillane in this current auction (one more Royal portable is offered in the Spillane portion of the internet-only session). This Smith-Corona Secretarial model was manufactured in the 1958-1960-time frame. It is quite conceivable that Spillane used it while writing such novels as The Deep, The Girl Hunters, Me, Hood, or Day of the Gun. This typewriter comes with a typed signed letter, dated August 3, 2005 to a friend identified only as "George" still in the carriage. Jane Spillane, Mickey's wife, indicates that this letter never left the carriage and remained unsent by Mickey, who perhaps was making corrections to it. The letter itself is quite interesting touching on his concerns for the coming hurricane season (the Spillanes nearly lost everything in 1989's Hurricane Hugo), a recent fall he had taken, praise for his step-daughter Lisa, his old neighborhood in Newburgh, New York, and ends the letter "Little by little I'm getting a mild tan, but the undercoating is wrinkling up some. I could go out naked and nobody would notice." The typewriter appears to be in very good, working condition. From the estate of Mickey Spillane.
