Frederick de Wit. Nova Orbis Tabula. In Lucem Edita, A. F. de Wit. [Amsterdam: circa 1660-70]. Double hemisphere map of the world, with California as an island. Single sheet, colored (18.25 x 21.625 inches; 465 x 551 mm.). Weakening, slight darkening at center crease with tears beginning at either end. Regular age toning; some small areas of foxing, offsetting. Margins trimmed close. Very good. Hemispheres accompanied by views from the north and south pole; representations of the four seasons at corners, combined with signs of the zodiac and the four elements to create brilliant, richly symbolic images. On very thick paper. Begins to outline "New Holland," or present-day Australia.
