Ackermann, [1825]. First edition. Together, twelve volumes (six Hindoostan; three Persia; one Japan; two Spain and Portugal); twelvemo. Illustrated. Contemporary light brown diced calf; spines in five compartments with four raised bands, tooled in gilt, compartments elaborately stamped in gilt, two with black gilt-lettered leather labels, boards double-ruled in gilt with decorative blind tooling, board edges tooled in gilt; marbled page edges and endpapers. Joints darkened and worn, front boards of Spain and Portugal detached; a couple volumes possibly rebacked at an early date; backstrips dulled with the leather starting to crack; boards rubbed with a few small blots; spine ends, board edges and corners worn to varying degrees. Pages edges slightly dust-soiled; faint offsetting opposite plates; some volumes somewhat foxed. Very good. Ex-Rudolph Valentino, with his oversized bookplate bottom portion trimmed to fit on the front board. From a Private Collection in St. Charles, IL.
