Frank James: A Delightful Signed Pen & Ink Drawing for his Beloved Son Robbie. One of the hardest parts of being locked up awaiting trial was being separated from his son, as his letters to Anna make clear. Enclosed in a March 24, 1883, letter from Gallatin was this well-rendered drawing of a bird, which Frank signed within the drawing. On the reverse side he has printed "God Bless My Little Man From Papa", and there is an original diminutive envelope addressed to "Master Rob Frank James". He has printed rather than written because his son was too young to read cursive handwriting (in one of his handwritten letters to Anna he adds a neatly printed postscript for Robbie to read). This touching and illuminating little card is surely one of the most appealing Frank James items in the Zink collection. 3.5" x 1.875".

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
