Description

Frank E. Simmons. Coryell County History Stories.
[No publisher stated]: [Oglesby, Texas], [1948]. 8vo. 120 pp. Manila paper wraps with holograph titles: "Coryell County History Stories, / by, / Frank E. Simmons / Unfinished by the Publisher, / Not proofed nor corrected in / any manner by the publisher, / Abounds in typographical errors, / Oglesby, Texas, 1948, / / Only 58 Published". A few short tears to the edges of a few pages, else a sound copy in very good condition. Simmons had a falling out with his publisher prior to completion of the book. Simmons retrieved the 58 unbound copies and bound them himself using paper wraps bearing his handwritten cover title. A unique presentation of a scarce and peculiar Texas printing.

Frank Elmer Simmons was author of several regional histories as well as a writer for a number of Texas county newspapers.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
