First English edition translated from the original Latin, which was published in 1676, issued four years after Willughby's death by his friend and associate John Ray. Folio (14 x 9 inches; 355 x 235 mm). (12), 441 (page 335 misnumbered 333), (6 index), plus 80 engraved plates (2 unnumbered and plates numbered 1-78). Gold stamped leather front and back covers are inlaid over later binding; corners of binding, head and tail of spine, and hinges worn; marbled endpapers; edges of pages are marbled. Good condition. Two bookplates, one of an unidentified owner and one of William Wordie of Glasgow. Nissen IVB 991.
