    Modern three quarter binding with decoration and titles stamped in gilt in six compartments between five raised bands. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Former owner's name on the second front free endpaper. Another former owner's book plate on the verso of the front free endpaper. A beautiful copy externally and internally. Fine.

    Francis Lubbock served as the governor of Texas during the Civil War years. When his term ended in 1863 he joined the Confederate army as a lieutenant colonel and was ultimately promoted aide-de-camp to Jefferson Davis. In his memoirs Lubbock chronicles his early Texas Republic days to his final service as the treasurer of Texas.
