    First edition. Sixteenmo. 198 pages; index, 24 pages of advertisements.

    Original brown cloth with titles and Texas lone star stamped in gilt on the front board. Boards damp stained and sunned, especially on the spine. Light toning, mainly at the preliminary pages with some marginalia on the preliminary and terminal pastedowns and endpapers. A solid copy in good condition, in a double acid-free slipcase enclosed in a double box in a beautiful custom quarter morocco slipcase with titles and decoration in five compartments between four raised bands.

    Allan originally compiled ballads during the Civil War and issued editions in brochure form [Parrish 6615]. This edition marks the first appearance of the collected works.
