[Fore-Edge Painting]. Le Livre des Prieres Communes | The Book of Common Prayer. Oxford: John Baskett, 1717. Early armorial fore-edge painting depicting the Gordon, Bedenoch, Seton, and Frazer family arms supported by a greyhound and a Senator of the College of Justice, flanked by flowers and birds, artist unknown. Octavo. Unpaginated. Double column, parallel text in French and English, ruled in red. Contemporary full red morocco elaborately decorated in gilt and inlaid green morocco, spine decorated in gilt and black with five raised bands, decorative gilt roll to edges. Rebacked, moderate edgewear, somewhat rubbed and darkened. Inner dentelles gilt; marbled endpapers; rear hinge just starting, minor wear, pencil notations to free endpapers. Internally generally clean and tight, all edges gilt; minor foxing and thumbsoiling. Very good with charming and still remarkably bright fore-edge painting.

A laid-in manuscript note suggests that the fore-edge painting commemorates the wedding of Cosmo George, third Duke of Gordon, to the Lady Catherine Gordon in 1741.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
