    [Fore-Edge Painting.] Eliza Cook. Poems. London: Routledge, Warne, & Routledge, 1864. "A New Edition, in One Volume." Small octavo (6.375 x 4 inches; 163 x 101 mm.). xii, 564 pages. Portrait frontispiece and eight additional engraved plates. Contemporary green morocco, spine lettered and ruled in gilt with five raised bands, boards ruled in gilt and black, gilt fillet decorations and inside dentelles; all text block edges trimmed and gilt. Binding generally rather worn; spine very faintly dulled; binding rubbed with several light scratches; small areas of black ruling at front board worn away; corners bumped. Front joint completely split, rear joint split about three-quarters of the way up from bottom, spine detached from text block; previous owner bookplate at front pastedown; small piece of clear tape at fore-edge of front free endpaper; holograph bifolium tipped to rear pastedown with a key describing how to interpret playing cards. Series of small scuffs along text block edges; interior of text block softly dulled. Very good text block in a good binding. With bright, clean, striking fore-edge painting of a full deck of playing cards laid out face-up in four rows of thirteen on a green background.
