    [Edwards of Halifax, presumed]. James Thomson. The Seasons. London: J. Murray, 1778. "A new edition." Small octavo. xlv, [1, contents], 256 pages; pages xix and xx omitted in pagination but register is continuous. Illustrated with engravings, including frontispiece by Caldwell after the author's monument in Westminster Abbey. Binding in the style of Edwards of Halifax; contemporary full vellum with monochrome paintings under the vellum, upper board with image of a couple standing beneath a tree, lower board with image of a couple caught in a lightning storm, otherwise decorated in gilt featuring a Greek meander on a blue wash, spine elaborately decorated in gilt with a blue wash spine label lettered in gilt, decorative gilt roll to edges. Minor edgewear, somewhat rubbed. Inner dentelles gilt, maroon endpapers; bookplates of Lucy Coles and "DC" to front endpapers, small repair to front pastedown. Internally generally clean and tight, all edges gilt; somewhat foxed, some offsetting, minor edgewear to gilt on spine. Housed in green morocco slipcase decorated in gilt, worn. Very good with detailed but somewhat worn fore-edge painting.
