Fletcher Pratt and L. Sprague de Camp. Land of Unreason. New York: Henry Holt, [1942]. First edition. Inscribed by de Camp in 1985 on title page. Publisher's binding and dust jacket. Fine. Laid in is a typed letter signed by Pratt. From the Jerry Weist Collection.

    More Information:

The laid-in correspondence from 1943 consists of a carbon copy of the original letter from the man in Chicago to Fletcher Pratt, the reply from Pratt, and the further reply from the Holt manager. Laid in is a typed letter signed by Pratt written to a man who had complained about the book being unavailable in Chicago and who had asked whether the book was non-fiction or fantasy: "Land of Unreason is pure fantasy, at least we thought so when we wrote it; and I am passing your letter along to the publishers to see what they can do about the complaint therein contained." Also included is the snarky reply from the Holt representative about the level of professionalism of the booksellers the gentleman had spoken to, ending with "The book is fantasy, and we are enclosing a copy of the wrapper which, I think, will convince you that it is a fantasy."
