DescriptionWilliam H. English. Conquest of the Country Northwest of the River Ohio, 1778-1783 and Life of Gen. George Rogers Clark. Indianapolis and Kansas City: The Bowen-Merrill Company, 1896.
First edition. Two octavo volumes. Continuous numbering concluding at page 1,186, including Index. Over One Hundred and Twenty-Five Illustrations.
Brown pebbled boards with gilt decoration of Clark with sword in hand; gilt lettering and decoration on spine. Mild to moderate wear to board corners. Spine ends show moderate shelf wear. Textblock is amazing - beautiful heavy paper is bright and clean throughout. George Clark's victories in the Northwest enabled the US to obtain legal right to the territory under the Treaty of Paris, in 1783, making this critical study by English extremely desirable.
