W. Somerset Maugham. The Letter. A Play in Three Acts. New York: George H. Doran, [1927]. Souvenir issue commemorating opening night. Bookplate with Maugham's signature pasted in. Original orange wrappers are worn. Tear to bottom edge of front cover. Front hinge beginning to separate. A fragile item in very good condition.

    More Information:

Souvenir issue. Bookplate with Maugham's signature pasted to front free endpaper. Octavo. 177 pages.

Publisher's orange wrappers with black stamping. Wrappers show edge wear and rubbing with some light soiling and one word written in ink on the front cover. Spine is mildly faded with some minor chipping. There is a two-inch tear to the bottom edge of the front cover. The front hinge is beginning to separate due to aging binding glue. A notation is written on the cast list page: "With Virginia Tracey / September 26, 1927." A very good copy of a fragile item.

This edition was issued for the opening night at the Morosco Theatre, New York, September 26, 1927. It was given away with the compliments of the producer and the publisher. Aside from the binding, the only difference from the Doran issue is the inclusion of a tipped-in leaf listing the cast.
