Both copies housed in one red clamshell box with the spine stamped in gilt.
Light rubbing, some chipping and small losses to edges of envelope covers, envelopes have been broken apart, light toning and foxing on one copy throughout and on the other copy only on the front cover. Clamshell box is slightly discolored at the top edge and spine. Very good condition of Harte's satirical work focused upon the anti-Chinese leanings in northern California in the later 19th century.
First printing points: Card 1 the artist's signature is un-cut, card 2 the artist's signature touches the copyright notice, card 3 the artist's signature is uncut, card 4 the artist's signature is to the left and abovet he copyright notice, card 5 has cards on the table beneath Ah Sin's right hand, card 6 artist's signature uncut, card 7 text above but to the left of Ah Sin's right hand, card 8 toe of flying boot under the word "tapers," card 9 th eloop in the "H" of the artist's signature is over the "in" in "according."
