Stephen King: First Trade Edition of The Gunslinger (West Kingston, Rhode Island: Donald M. Grant Publisher, Inc., 1982), first trade edition, 224 pages, brown cloth with gilt spine titles, 8vo (6.25" x 9.25"), dust jacket. King's epic post-apocalyptic Dark Tower series first saw publication in book form with this very volume. Originally serialized in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction between 1978 and 1981, The Dark Tower series has become a touchstone for readers of dark fantasy, and has drawn comparisons to The Lord of the Rings for its epic sweep and breadth of character and story. The book presented here is in fine condition in a near fine unclipped dust jacket. Minimal wear at the corners and spine ends are the only points keeping the dust jacket from fine. A beautiful copy of a Stephen King masterpiece.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
