"To the true friends of Africa..."Richard F. Burton. Wanderings in West Africa From Liverpool to Fernando Po. London: Tinsley Brothers, 1863.
First edition. Octavo. viii, 303; 295 pages. Frontispiece. Folding map. Three-quarter brown morocco over marbled boards, double gilt rules on covers, spines elaborately tooled and lettered in gilt in six compartments with five raised bands. Top edges gilt. Stamp-signed by Root & Son on the verso of the front free endpapers. Marbled endpapers. Very good.
Burton apparently intended to publish this work anonymously. On the title page the book is described as having been written "By A F.R.G.S." But, according to Penzer, all copies except Burton's personal copy, were bound by the publisher so that "Burton's name is given in full on the cover" (Penzer).

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
