DescriptionNoah Smithwick: The Evolution of a State or Recollections of Old Texas Days. Compiled by his Daughter Nanna Smithwick Donaldson. Austin: Gammel Book Company. . First Edition. 8vo. 354pp. Red cloth with black decorative imprint on cover; black lettering on spine. Three illustrations, four photographic plates including frontispiece. Signature of two former owners on initial endpapers. Significant stains to front board; minor wear to corners and edges. Moderate wear to outer front hinge. Light bumping to spine ends.
Smithwick was born in 1808 in North Carolina, trained as a blacksmith, and moved to Texas in 1827. For the next 34 years, Smithwick collected observances of the people, places, and events of note in the state. He served through the war for Texas Independence, and later became a Ranger, living for awhile with the Comanche, learning their language, and representing them in treaty negotiations with the Texan government in 1838. Smithwick claims to have been the man who forged the first replica Bowie knife, based on the knife that became famous after the Sandbar Duel of 1827. The book contains wonderful anecdotes of such important men as James Bowie, Sam Houston, Stephen Austin, David G. Burnet, Gail Borden, Padre Michael Muldoon, R.M. Williamson, and others. Dobie calls this work "The best of all books dealing with life in early Texas."

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
HA.com receives more traffic than any other auction house website. (Source: Similarweb.com)
