Description

    First Edition of Huckleberry Finn

Mark Twain. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Tom Sawyer's Comrade). New York: Charles L. Webster and Company, 1885. First edition with the following first issue points, per BAL: "Him and another Man" with "88" on p. [13]; "with the was" instead of "with the saw" on p. 57; and frontispiece with "Heliotype Printing Company" and visible tablecloth. Also, "Huck Decided" instead of "Huck Decides" under "Chapter VI" on p. [9], a first issue point per MacDonnell (Firsts, p. 31); p. 283 on a stub. Octavo. 366 pages. Portrait frontispiece. Text illustrations by E. W. Kemble. Publisher's full green pictorial cloth, stamped and lettered in gilt and black. Laid in is an early photograph postcard of Twain with his name in Cyrillic. Bumped corners. Professionally recased retaining original boards and backstrip. Hinges reinforced. Some slight damp-staining to lower corner of pastedown through table of contents. Some minor tape-staining to rear free endpaper. Overall, a very good, clean copy, showing some professional conservation work.

BAL 3415. Kevin MacDonnell in Firsts, September 1998 - Vol. 8, No. 9, "Huck Finn, Among the Issue Mongers," pages 29-35.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
