    Description

Major W. Broadfoot. The Career of Major George Broadfoot in Afghanistan and the Punjab. London: John Murray, 1888.

First edition. Octavo. 445 pages. Frontispiece portrait and maps. Index.

Black cloth with gold titles on spine and coat-of-arms on front cover. The name of a previous owner is written on the front endpaper. Moderate wear on the binding and toning in the paper. Overall very good.

During the early 1840s, the British, ever expanding colonial power in India, began preparing for a potential war with the Sikhs. Conflict became inevitable after the Governor General, Lord Ellenborough, was replaced by Lord Hardinge in July 1844. Major George Broadfoot, an aggressive warmonger, was then appointed political agent on the Punjab frontier. The war finally erupted in December 1845. This account of Major Broadfoot's career was based on the papers of all three military figures.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
