    Some rubbing, lightly bumped corners and spine ends, small pencil notations on preliminary pages and light staining to the top edges of the preliminary and final pages.

    John Woolman (1720-1772) was a Quaker preacher who passionately opposed slavery throughout his life and in this work which became a classic of American literature. The work was first published posthumously in 1774 by Joseph Crukshank and was subsequently reprinted under differet publishers many times into the present day. The present edition with an introduction by the Quaker poet and abolitionist John Whittier (1807-1892) is the most respected version.
