    First edition thus. Octavo. 258 pages. With full-page color illustrations and decorations in the text by John Austen.

    Beautifully bound by Riviere and Son in full crushed green morocco with a pictorial onlaid design of a man on one knee before a woman, in blue, pink, purple, green, white, red and ochre on the front cover within a double gilt rule border with corner devices. Spine is tooled and lettered in gilt in six compartments with five raised bands. Board edges and dentelles gilt, all edges gilt. Color Peacock endpapers. Joints cracking and a little tender but still sound. A few other minor scuff marks, else a wonderful copy in an elegant, attractive binding. Housed in a custom cloth slipcase.
