    Autograph Manuscript Signed
"Jack Vance." 104 pages, 5.75 x 8.5 inches, various paper sources including hotel stationery, scrap paper, and regular ruled notebook paper folded into bifolia leaves, upon which Vance has written on all four pages, most of the time. Collation of the pages as follows: 1-10, 9A-10B, 11-12, 11A-12B, 13-14, 13A-13B, 14A-15C, 16A-51B, 52A. This manuscript is wrapped in brown paper upon which Vance has written "1st Draft of 'Fretzske's Turn' a novelette [sic] for Bob Silverberg anthology." Considering the source of the paper Vance uses here, the manuscript is in fine condition.

    Bob Silverberg (editor).
Triax. Los Angeles: Pinnacle Books, [1977]. First printing. Sixteenmo. 214 pages. Publisher's wrappers. Fine condition. Paperback original that includes Freitzske's Turn, written specifically for this anthology and published here for the time.

Rare is the opportunity to see such a linear progression of a manuscript to its publication. In this archive, we have the author's first, second, and final drafts of the story, and the book in which the story was published, as well as hundreds of pages of work in the author's hand and three full signatures. A truly unique archive for the Vance enthusiast. From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
