    J. R. R. Tolkien: The Return of the King (London: George Allen & Unwin, 1955), first edition, first impression, second state, 416 pages plus fold-out map by Christopher Tolkien, red cloth with gilt spine titles, 8vo (5.75" x 9"), dust jacket. Top edge stained red (as issued). The concluding volume in Tolkien's mega-selling classic Lord of the Rings trilogy. The book is in about very good condition, with bumped corners, moderate edge wear present, a slightly cocked spine, and mild toning to the textblock edges. The dust jacket is in about good condition, with a 2" x 1.5" portion of the spine missing, worn folds, some chipping, and general edge wear present. Original Allen & Unwin releases of the Rings novels are rare in any condition, and this book would make a good addition to any Tolkien fan's library.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
