Jenkins Basic Texas Books 82: "Shortly after publication, Haley and the owners [of the XIT] were sued for libel by members of the Spikes family, about whom defamatory statements were made in the chapter entitled 'A Long Fight for Law.' The book was withdrawn from circulation, and lawsuits ensued until Haley was able to prove in court that his accusations were true.' "Adams Herd 969. Adams Six-Gun 894. Robinson 3. Howes H39.
