DescriptionH.G. Wells. The Invisible Man, A Grotesque Romance. London: C. Arthur Pearson Limited, 1897.
First edition. Twelvemo. 245 pages with three pages of publisher advertisements; first page of text misnumbered.
Bound in red cloth with black-stamped cover image and gilt lettering. Significant fading to spine and wear to spine ends. Occasional soiling to boards and spine; minor to moderate rubbing of boards and corner tips. Interior pages heavily toned and somewhat brittle; flyleaf is detached. Pearson's books are known for poor quality paper and inferior binding techniques, and Wells' only issue by this publisher is no exception. As a result, we have never seen a truly fine copy of The Invisible Man, this being a decent copy of a vulnerable book. From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.
