    Early edition, and the first illustrated by George Cruikshank. Octavo. xxiii, 391 pages. Twenty-eight illustrated plates, including frontispiece.

    Publisher's green half polished calf with marbled boards and gilt titles on backstrip. Page edges speckled red. Lightly rubbed extremities with mild sunning to backstrip. Front hinge cracked. Spots of glue residue on front pastedown. Mildly toned pages with some occasional foxing and soiling. A very good copy.

    First published in 1852, Uncle Tom's Cabin became the best selling novel of the nineteenth century. Originally illustrated by Hammatt Billings, this early edition was illustrated by English illustrator George Cruikshank, highly regarded for his illustrations for some of Charles Dickens most beloved works, Sketches by Boz and Oliver Twist.
