    First edition. Quarto. Engraved title (dated 1827), Title, New Preface, xcvi, 324 pages. 46 lithographed plates (1-8, 8a, 9-45) including several fold-out plates. Several lithographed vignettes tipped at chapter endings. Errata page and additional corrigenda slip present. Some pages uncut.

    Later green buckram with a tan title plate affixed to the spine, lettered in black. Moderate edge wear, bumped corners & spine ends. Both hinges starting from the bottom edge. Previous owners' signatures on the verso and recto of the front free endpaper. Some occasional mild foxing throughout, otherwise very clean. All in all, a good, solid copy of a scarce book.

    Accompanied by an Autograph Letter Signed by a bookseller to the gentleman whose name is signed on the front pastedown.
