Full period sheep, with ornate blind-stamped pictorial boards, featuring seven soldiers standing at attention with bayonets behind three soldiers on horseback. Gilt-stamped leather label to spine; gilt rules to spine. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Head of spine is missing. Joints splitting; rear hinge broken, with rear board attached by cords. Spine and boards rubbed, scarred, and lightly soiled, with leather worn at extremities. Pages remarkably bright, with occasional foxing. An unusual binding in need of professional restoration. Inked name on title page. A scarce first edition in good or better condition.
